Join distinguished visiting professor David Lopez for this lecture on how the U.S. legal system has shaped and continues to shape national belonging, and has often relegated significant portions Latine communities to a state of limbo or liminality through laws impacting political status, immigration status, language, labor and education. This topic will be explored on a foundation of five songs.
Lopez is co-dean emeritus, university professor, professor of law and Professor Alfred Slocum Scholar at Rutgers Law School. From 2018-21, he served as dean of the Rutgers Law School-Newark campus. A labor and employment law expert, he has also taught civil rights and social mobilization courses.
