Lesser Saints

Maggie Pierce MFA Thesis Exhibition

Event description

  • Arts and entertainment

"Lesser Saints" is a solo MFA exhibition by Maggie Pierce which examines systems of power and value through anthropomorphization, interaction and empathy. The body of work presented includes image, installation, works on paper, found objects and sound. It arose from a practice of collection, accumulation and documentation. The goal of this practice has been to develop a sensitivity to the agency of things through noticing and engaging with everyday materials, particularly those which have reached the end of utility.  Scraps, previously disengaged, are recontextualized in a gallery space to breathe, relate and resonate. Things which initially seemed disparate gather and find commonalities with one another. Their fragmentary forms emulate unknown past movements. Sharing marks of use and abandonment, together they will leave behind function and begin to search for purpose. Their existence and activity continued after being discarded, left behind, or lost and will continue beyond this exhibition.
