Local Farm Volunteer Days

Join us for a hands-on volunteer day connecting ASU students, faculty and staff with local growers working to strengthen Arizona’s food system.

No farming or gardening experience is needed. Come ready to learn, get a little dirty and lend a hand with real farm projects and seasonal tasks. Depending on the farm and time of year, activities may include preparing beds, planting, harvesting, weeding, composting, irrigation work, general farm maintenance and other projects identified by the grower.

These days are about more than volunteering. They’re an opportunity to get outside, learn directly from local farmers, experience urban agriculture in the Valley and contribute a few hours of meaningful work to farms serving our local community. 

No experience required. Students, faculty and staff are welcome.

Space is limited. Registration is required. 

Fall 2026 Farm Volunteer Days

Sept. 20 | Bene Vivendo Farm

Spend the morning with a small-scale local grower specializing in edible flowers, herbs, specialty produce and florals. Bene Vivendo brings together food, flowers, ecology and education while demonstrating what creative, small-scale agriculture can look like in the Sonoran Desert. Volunteer activities will be based on the farm’s seasonal needs and may include planting, harvesting, garden maintenance and other hands-on farm work. Learn more about Bene Vivendo Farm. 

Oct. 10 & Nov. 7 | Maya’s Farm

Get hands-on experience at one of South Phoenix’s longest established small urban farms. Maya’s Farm grows seasonal vegetables, herbs, flowers and other specialty crops for the local community. ASU Farm volunteer days give participants an opportunity to work alongside local growers while learning about small-scale sustainable food production in the desert. Activities vary with the growing season and may include planting, harvesting, weeding, bed preparation, irrigation and other farm projects. Learn more about Maya’s Farm.

Nov. 21  | St. Vincent de Paul Urban Farm

See how urban agriculture can directly serve the community. St. Vincent de Paul’s Urban Farm Program grows fresh produce that supports its kitchens, dining rooms and food programs serving individuals and families experiencing food insecurity. Volunteers work alongside the farm team on seasonal projects that may include planting, harvesting, preparing seedlings, tending beds, irrigation, composting and other farm tasks. What to Bring

Come prepared to work outside and get dirty! Wear comfortable clothes appropriate for farm work, closed-toe shoes and sun protection. Bring a hat, sunscreen and a refillable water bottle. Additional arrival, parking and transportation information will be provided to registered volunteers before each event.
