Navigating Horizons

Event description

  • Arts and entertainment

Gallery 100 is excited to announce Navigating Horizons, a multimedia BFA exhibition of works grounded in personal and collective experiences. Andrea Quinto Corona, Bao-Ngoc Nguyen, Hazel Neethling, Hiro Nakaya, Raedyn Hursey, Rennan Kooistra, and Sawyer Boyd each tackle a range of issues such as climate consciousness, political dissonance, inner enlightenment, and our relationships with others. Each artist involved offers their own distinct approach to the world through their art, using their unique perspectives to explore and connect to shared environments.

Andrea Quinto Corona is a multimedia artist that works in creating art related to gender, the body, and identity consistently paired with distorted imagery, beauty standards and dolls. She has been interested in creating more political art based on genocide, human exploitation, borders and themes related to universal yet personal struggles such as mental distress and insecurities.

Bao-Ngoc Nguyen is a traditional artist based in Phoenix, Arizona that creates narrative artwork inspired by her Vietnamese background and the social idealism of manifestation using black ink and oil paint.

Hazel Neethling is a traditional artist born and raised in the vibrant desert landscape of Arizona. Her evocative oil paintings and charcoal works explore the depths of the human psyche, producing hauntingly beautiful scenes that capture the complexity of human emotion.

Hiroaki Nakaya is a Japanese photographer living in Phoenix, Arizona whose works focus on themes of time, history, and human connection, often blending past and present to create a sense of continuity. Guided by values like loyalty, honesty, and respect, Hiroaki's photography highlights the importance of relationships and meaningful experiences over material.

Raedyn Hursey creates colorful watercolor and colored pencil fantasy art that encourages kids of all ages to be themselves and be proud of who they are, while also learning to be kind and having fun in the process. She takes inspiration from her queer identity, her own childhood experiences, as well as insight from watching her sister grow.

Rennan Kooistra is an emerging fine art photographer based in Phoenix, Arizona whose artwork examines the interplay between social identity and psychological theories about the mind, through a variety of photographic media including digital, silver gelatin and alternative photographic process photography.

Sawyer Boyd is an innovative artist dedicated to revitalizing overlooked objects into vibrant sculptural forms, transforming both the art and its environment. Deeply influenced by his Venezuelan heritage, Boyd draws inspiration from the striking devil masks of the Corpus Christi festival, seamlessly integrating cultural narratives into his sculptures in new and exciting ways.
