Nowhere : now here

“Nowhere : now here” is a solo MFA thesis exhibition by B. Jean Larson that questions value and visibility by exploring the intersections of queer theory, posthumanism, utilitarian textile craft, and gender and disability studies. Made solely of discarded textiles sourced from Japan, Iceland, Iowa, and Phoenix, this exhibition features large scale rag rugs that fluctuate between painting and sculpture, art and craft. By using queer theory to reappropriate and reclaim utilitarian textile craft to make non-utilitarian objects, B. Jean Larson questions why something must be useful in order to exist and why existence is dependent on being visible.
