Opening Reception | Stop Making Sense

Event description

  • Arts and entertainment
  • Free
  • Open to the public

“Stop Making Sense” is a group exhibition that features the work of 8 current and recently graduated ASU artists: Kaitlyn Ashcroft, Soraya Burrow, Devin Dawson, Nicole Everding, Ashley Latin, Natalia Lopez, Jennifer Marcial-Kissi and Luis Zamora.

Brought together by a common interest in the surreal and uncanny, these 8 artists tap into deeper parts of the mind to create their own envisioned worlds. Surrealism, which is defined as “the principles, ideals, or practice of producing fantastic imagery or effects in art by means of unnatural or irrational juxtapositions and combinations, opens the door for other possibilities to emerge. From acrylic and oil paint to watercolor and traditional drawing materials, each artist's work favors imagination over reality and embraces the nonsensical nature of the human experience.

Exhibition Dates: August 28–September 9, 2023
Opening Reception: Tuesday, Aug. 29, 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.
Gallery Hours: Monday–Friday, noon to 5 p.m.
