We are proud to welcome Kevin Peter He as the first Visiting Artist in Residence at the ASU MIX Center. His project PASSAGE inaugurates this new program, which invites leading artists and technologists to create and share groundbreaking immersive work with our community.

PASSAGE is an evolving speculative project that explores the entanglement between ecology and synthetic infrastructure. Spanning live cinema performance, sculptural installation, and fragrance, it invites audiences into a world where organic life and machine systems grow inseparably.

About

What would nature become if shaped by machines? How does life persist within systems of control? PASSAGE is an evolving speculative project that explores the entanglement between ecology and synthetic infrastructure. Spanning live cinema performance, sculptural installation, and fragrance, it invites audiences into a world where organic life and machine systems grow inseparably. PASSAGE explores how nature is transformed into infrastructure: engineered, aestheticized, and embedded into urban and digital systems.

Inspired by the artist’s upbringing in hyper-urban environments, where greenery is curated to offset industrial sprawl, PASSAGE interrogates how landscapes are shaped by control, and where the agency of nature endures in an increasingly entangled world. At the heart of PASSAGE is a living digital world: a simulated ecosystem imagined in a game engine. Metallic roots and vines entwine with organic flora and fauna, channeling energy to an artificial sun and forming a feedback loop of life. Sustained equally by forest and machine, the cybernetic landscape shifts in response to systemic conditions, cycling through phases of growth, collapse, and renewal.

The installation is FREE and for ALL AGES. A free ticket reservation is required.
