Race and the American Story with Adam Seagrave and Stephanie Shonekan

Event description

  • Academic events
  • Free
  • Open to the public

400 years after the twin birth of American democracy and American racial slavery, we have yet to fully grapple with the tragedies and lessons of the American story. The series of police killings of unarmed Black Americans in 2013-14 that gave rise to the Black Lives Matter Movement also gave rise to an educational project at the University of Missouri co-founded by a Black woman (Stephanie Shonekan) and a white man (Adam Seagrave). In their book "Race and the American Story," Stephanie Shonekan and Adam Seagrave weave together personal narratives and interdisciplinary expertise in order to bring honest and hopeful light to issues of race in American history.

Light bites and refreshments will be served.
