"A Sense of Place: Inspired by the Boyce Thompson Arboretum" Exhibition

In 2024 the Boyce Thompson Arboretum, Superior, AZ celebrated its 100th anniversary. This art exhibition is a reflection of the arboretum’s historical significance and unique sense of place.

To accomplish the art exhibition, ASU School of Art students in Professor Ellen Meissinger’s "Art on Paper" course collaborated with Professor Mark Tebeau and Erin Craft from ASU Public History to learn more about the arboretum’s extensive history. Students were divided into research teams to listen to oral histories, attend lectures and visit the arboretum. The resulting series of paintings and drawings draw creative inspiration from the past while celebrating the present- day arboretum as a diverse and enduring sense of place.

This exhibition is on display from Jan. 13 to Feb. 27. ASU students, staff, and faculty can enjoy extended access hours using their Sun Card. Check Noble Library hours to plan your visit.
