Skeletal Muscle Phenotype and Metabolic Dysfunction in Humans with Obesity

Event description

  • Free
  • Health and wellness
  • Open to the public

Obesity exhibits fiber-type-specific health outcomes, with alterations in the proportion of muscle fiber types explaining common obesity-related conditions such as hypertension, heart disease, resistance to weight loss and reduced physical activity. Current research in our laboratory is focused on understanding the muscle fiber phenotype in individuals with obesity, as well as the mechanisms that sustain this specific muscle fiber phenotype. Ultimately, our goal is to explore how changes in muscle fiber composition could improve health outcomes for those affected by obesity.

This lecture will be given by Christos Katsanos, an associate professor at the School of Life Sciences.

This event is part of the ASU-Banner Neurodegenerative Disease Research Center Director’s Lecture series, hosted by Jeffrey Kordower.
