Explore transatlantic perspectives on geopolitics and security in this discussion panel. Hear from academic leaders, including Budapest Metropolitan University Professors Péter Rada, Victor Friedman, András Szeberényi, and ASU School of Politics and Global Studies Assistant Teaching Professor Alicia Ellis, as they share insights on evolving global power dynamics and security challenges. Budapest Metropolitan University's Tamás Gergely Kucsera will deliver brief introductory remarks, and the conversation will be moderated by ASU Graduate Teaching Associate Shirvin Zeinalzadeh.

About the panelists 

Viktor Friedmann is an Associate Professor at Budapest Metropolitan University where he currently serves as the Dean of the Faculty of Business, Communication, and Tourism. He holds a PhD in Political Science (International Relations) from Central European University. His research interests include the foreign policy of the People’s Republic of China, historical international relations, and the international politics of digital technologies.

Péter Rada is the Vice-Rector for International Relations at the Budapest Metropolitan University, where he has been an associate professor since 2012. He served as a diplomat at the Hungarian Embassy in Washington, D.C.. Also, he worked for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade of Hungary in different positions related to strategic planning, the Middle East, and the CFSP of the EU. He is the Co-Chair of the International Political Science Association’s Research Committee on World Orders. He has a PhD in political science and habilitation in public administration sciences.

András Szeberényi is a college professor at the Institute of Marketing and Communication Studies at the Budapest Metropolitan University, teaching topics related to marketing, media and sustainability in both English and Hungarian. He obtained his PhD in 2020 at Szent István University, and his main research areas include: artificial intelligence, marketing and media, online communications, search engine optimization, renewable energy and environmental awareness. 

Alicia Ellis is an Assistant Teaching Professor and Director of the Master of Arts in Global Security program at ASU. Alicia was appointed as a Presidential Management Fellow in 2012, during which she served as an analyst at the Treasury and State Departments. She studied Russian language at the Institute of World Politics and served two deployments as an Air Battle Manager in support of Operation Enduring Freedom and Operation Iraqi Freedom. She is an expert on topics related to national and international security, economic statecraft, geopolitics, and war & conflict.
