The McCain Institute invites you to a virtual event, titled “UNSILENCED: A Conversation with Justice Defenders on Shaping Africa’s Future.”Join us on Tuesday, July 30, 2024, at 10:30 AM ET for a panel discussion on the struggles and triumphs of justice defenders from the often ‘forgotten’ countries in Africa.

Human rights activists are facing unprecedented repression around the globe. African human rights defenders often go unnoticed in the global conversation where attention is focused on China, Ukraine/Russia, and the Middle East. This event will focus on how African human rights defenders are dealing with internal and external pressures. Crises in Sudan and the Democratic Republic of the Congo continue to draw attention, but many other countries are facing challenges and crises. The participants will discuss the problems facing them and how they see their efforts shaping the future of Africa.

This event not only aims to spotlight the critical issues faced by these defenders but also seeks to understand the broader geopolitical impacts that affect their work. It’s an opportunity to hear firsthand about the challenges they navigate daily and the support they need to continue their advocacy. We hope you will join us for this compelling discussion and look forward to your participation in supporting these crucial voices from Africa.
