Our third film in the West Valley Film Series, Demon Mineral, is part of the campus Native American Heritage Month Celebration, which will be screened on Wednesday, November 6 @ 7:00 pm in CLCC Lecture Hall. An award-winning documentary, this film can be considered an “anti-Western,” flipping the classic cinematic paradigm by centering the voices and experiences of the Dine community to explore the legacy of uranium mining in Dine Bikeyah, the sacred homelands of the Navajo, where over 500 unremediated mines are scattered across an area the size of West Virginia. This film celebrates the actions of the Dine community to fight against new mines and improve life in an irradiated ecosystem. A brief discussion will be led after the film by ASU’s Labriola National Indian Data Center. Admission free. Watch the trailer: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WCB8Y0cXplA
