Youth Protection Program: Hiring youth activity staff — fingerprinting, contingent workers and volunteers
Event description
- Professional and career development
ASU launched the Youth Protection Program on Nov. 3, 2025. To support its rollout, the Youth Protection Program Office is hosting biweekly training sessions on various youth safety topics.
It is recommended that departments and individuals who work with minors attend these training sessions.
This session will provide an overview of hiring youth activity staff — fingerprinting, contingent workers and volunteers. It will include guidance on hiring and onboarding individuals who will work with minors in youth activities.
Attendees will learn best practices for hiring youth activity staff, understand background screening requirements and processes and the different types of activity staff.
Topics covered in this training session include:
- Policy overview of staffing and screening requirements
- Determining the correct engagement type: employee, volunteer, independent contractor
- Understanding fingerprint checks
- Workday processes for hiring, initiating fingerprinting and creating contingent workers
- Managing staff in the compliance registry
- Roles and responsibilities of activity managers, Office of Human Resources and the Youth Protection Program Office
