In this talk, Armin Grunwald confronts one of the defining puzzles of our era: technological progress generates unintended consequences that demand still more innovation. This unending spiral has shaped the Anthropocene so far. Grunwald argues for a responsible path between blind faith that new technology will fix what old technology broke, and nostalgic longing for a pre-industrial world. He directs the Institute for Technology Assessment and Systems Analysis (ITAS) at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) and, since 2002, has headed the Office of Technology Assessment at the German Bundestag (TAB). Since 2007 he has held the Chair of Philosophy and Ethics of Technology at KIT. Trained originally in physics, he later turned to philosophy, earning his habilitation at the University of Marburg. She is the Associate Dean of Health Humanities for the John Shufeldt School of Medicine and Medical Engineering and Director of Humanities Integration for ASU Health. She spent the last three years designing and implementing a core humanities curriculum for Shufeldt, and she is leading the establishment of the Health Humanities Commons in ASU Health. Her current book project focuses on a popular sixteenth century English medical advice manual written by a schoolteacher for university students called \u0027The Haven of Health.\u0022\u003C\/span\u003E\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003E\u003Ca href=\u0022https:\/\/search.asu.edu\/profile\/866912\u0022\u003E\u003Cstrong\u003EJenny Brian\u003C\/strong\u003E\u003C\/a\u003E\u003Cspan lang=\u0022EN\u0022\u003E is Faculty Chair, Honors Faculty Fellow, and Teaching Professor in Barrett, the Honors College. Dr. Brian\u2019s research crosses bioethics and science and technology studies. Her scholarship has been published in journals such as American Journal of Bioethics and Journal of Business Ethics, and has been funded by grants from the National Science Foundation and PEO Scholars. Dr. Brian\u0027s current research project is focused on sexuality, reproduction and carceral systems.\u0026nbsp;\u003C\/span\u003E\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003E\u003Ca href=\u0022https:\/\/search.asu.edu\/profile\/5509970\u0022\u003E\u003Cstrong\u003EAmanda Cachia\u003C\/strong\u003E\u003C\/a\u003E\u003Cspan lang=\u0022EN\u0022\u003E is a scholar, curator, and writer whose work advances disability art history, theory and activism; crip curatorial practices and access aesthetics; museum studies and institutional critique; social justice; and critical disability approaches to translation, movement, medicine and health. Her work has been supported by grants and fellowships from the National Endowment for the Arts, Ford Foundation and Canada Council for the Arts, among others. Dr. Cachia is currently the Research and Curatorial Advisor for a major exhibition on art and disability from the nineteenth century to the present, scheduled for 2028 at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA). Her fourth book, \u201cDisability Art: A Political History,\u201d under contract with Yale University Press, is forthcoming in 2028.\u003C\/span\u003E\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003E\u003Ca href=\u0022https:\/\/search.asu.edu\/profile\/1475926\u0022\u003E\u003Cstrong\u003EKelle Dhein\u003C\/strong\u003E\u003C\/a\u003E\u003Cspan lang=\u0022EN\u0022\u003E is a philosopher and historian of science who specializes in the history and philosophy of biology and complex systems science. His work has appeared in Nature Genetics, The Lancet: Digital Health, Annual Review of Biomedical Data Science, and Biology \u0026amp; Philosophy. Dr. Dhein\u2019s scholarship also explores Indigenous bioethics and Indigenous data sovereignty, and he serves as a consulting bioethicist at the Native BioData Consortium.\u003C\/span\u003E\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003E\u003Ca href=\u0022https:\/\/search.asu.edu\/profile\/4870924\u0022\u003E\u003Cstrong\u003EElizabeth J. Donaldson\u003C\/strong\u003E\u003C\/a\u003E\u003Cspan lang=\u0022EN\u0022\u003E is a scholar of disability, madness, the history of psychiatry and American literature. She has published essays on LSD-inspired disability-immersion experiences of schizophrenia, mental illness in film, antipsychiatry in Lauren Slater\u2019s memoirs, the depiction of psychosis in comics, and physiognomy and madness in \u0022Jane Eyre.\u0022 Dr. Donaldson is the editor of \u201cLiteratures of Madness: Disability Studies and Mental Health\u201d (Palgrave, 2018) and is co-editing the collection \u201cNeurofutures: Neurodiversity in Crip Time\u201d (NYU Press, 2027).\u003C\/span\u003E\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003E\u003Ca href=\u0022https:\/\/search.asu.edu\/profile\/1625388\u0022\u003E\u003Cstrong\u003EDr. Ben Hurlbut\u003C\/strong\u003E\u003C\/a\u003E\u003Cspan lang=\u0022EN\u0022\u003E\u2019s research lies at the intersection of science and technology studies, bioethics and political theory. He studies the changing relationships between science, politics and law in the governance of biomedical research and innovation, examining the interplay of science and technology with democracy, religious and moral pluralism, and public reason. He is affiliated and partnered with various university programs dedicated to diplomatic negotiations and has given numerous lectures on conflict transformation at American universities.\u003C\/span\u003E\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003EPrior to founding \u003Ca href=\u0022https:\/\/www.rethinkingconflict.com\/\u0022\u003E\u003Cspan\u003ERethinking Conflict\u003C\/span\u003E\u003C\/a\u003E, Mason spent 28 years as a clergy person in Belfast and was involved in the Northern Irish Peace Process.
