ASU scholar Devoney Looser, law student Dahlia Horani, and graduate Riki Cleveland will present \u201cThe Age of Jane Austen,\u201d detailing their personal journeys through research on the British author. The trio will discuss the challenges, joys, and surprises inherent in reading, writing, and researching British women writers of the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries. They\u2019ll also consider these larger questions:\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cul class=\u0022uds-list\u0022\u003E\u003Cli\u003EWhat is gained and lost by referring to this era as the \u201cAge of Jane Austen\u201d now?\u003C\/li\u003E\u003Cli\u003EWhy should we read the writers who inspired Jane Austen? What do we gain from that? \u0026nbsp;\u003C\/li\u003E\u003Cli\u003EWhat does it mean to pay attention to Jane Austen after her 250th anniversary in 2025 and in the wake of \u0022Bridgerton\u0022?\u003C\/li\u003E\u003C\/ul\u003E\u003Cp\u003EThere will also be a Q\u0026amp;A for audience members.\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003E\u003Cstrong\u003EAbout the presenters\u003C\/strong\u003E\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003E\u003Ca href=\u0022https:\/\/search.asu.edu\/profile\/284225\u0022\u003EDevoney Looser\u003C\/a\u003E is a Regents Professor of English at ASU. Her latest book, \u0022Wild for Austen: A Rebellious, Subversive, and Untamed Jane\u0022 (St. Martin\u0027s Press, 2025), is a USA Today Best-Selling Book and was featured on CBS Sunday Morning. Looser is a Guggenheim Fellow, an NEH Public Scholar, and a Rockefeller Bellagio Fellow. She\u0027s the author or editor of twelve books on Jane Austen and literature by women, including the biography \u0022Sister Novelists: Jane and Anna Maria Porter in the Age of Austen\u0022 (Bloomsbury, 2022).\u0026nbsp;\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003E\u003Ca href=\u0022https:\/\/news.asu.edu\/20250430-sun-devil-community-deans-medalist-uses-writing-literature-understand-human-experience\u0022\u003EDahlia Horani\u003C\/a\u003E is a graduate student at ASU\u0027s Sandra Day O\u0027Connor College of Law. She holds bachelor\u0027s degrees in English (literature) and psychology which she earned in 2025. She assisted Looser with research and final preparations for \u0022Wild for Austen\u0022 and for the forthcoming book, \u0022The Stunning Gunnings.\u0022\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003E\u003Ca href=\u0022https:\/\/search.asu.edu\/profile\/85721\u0022\u003ERiki Cleveland\u003C\/a\u003E is a development coordinator at ASU\u0027s \u003Cspan\u003EBarrett, The Honors College. She is also a graduate student in gender, women and sexuality studies. She holds a BA in English (literature) and an MAS in film and media studies from ASU.
