Press, 2025) Shattered Liberation is one of the first edited volumes to shed light on the sexualized violence experienced by some Holocaust survivors at the hands of the Soviet Army, partisans, rescuers, and personnel in filtration camps during the liberation process. Drawing on survivor testimonies and memoirs, the book examines a wide range of experiences, including sexual violence, rape, forced cohabitation, survival sex, acts of aid, and romantic relationships. Challenging the conventional view of liberation as an unambiguously positive moment, Shattered Liberation highlights the voices and memories of Jewish survivors to reveal a far more complex, if not devastating, reality.
