Conventional narratives of the war have routinely characterized the mass-scale violence and the grave humanitarian crisis in reductive and localized terms, arguing that they are a result of a political rivalry between a powerful militia and senior Islamist-backed military cadres of the Sudan Armed Forces. In contrast, Dr. Medani\u2019s lecture will address the root structural\u003Ci\u003E\u003Cspan\u003E\u0026nbsp;\u003C\/span\u003E\u003C\/i\u003E\u003Cspan\u003Ecauses, and \u2018logic,\u2019 of the War in Sudan paying special attention to critical historical junctures in Sudan\u2019s political economy that have shaped and accelerated dynamics of inclusion and exclusion in the context of shifts in the regional and global economy. The lecture will conclude by tracing the asymmetrical balance of power between civilians, and the leaders of the Armed Forces and the para-military militia (both of which are prosecuting the war through the instrumentalization of religion and ethnicity, and the strategic deployment of high levels of violence) in the context of the internationalization of the conflict including the struggle to control and monopolize natural resources, critical minerals and local and transnational markets.\u003C\/span\u003E\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003E\u003Cstrong\u003EOrganized and Moderated by Dr. Souad T.
