This presentation will explore how Christians engaged with these religious \u201cothers\u201d among the canals, marshes, and cities of Mesopotamia. My main source is a pair of fictional biographies of the founders of the Mandaean and Kentaean sects that are included in a catalogue of Christian heresies. These biographies present the founders as indolent and incompetent men hailing from the lowest strata of Mesopotamian society\u2014one a runaway slave and the other a street beggar. The two are also portrayed as unoriginal, \u201cstealing\u201d various doctrines from other religions and blending them into an unholy cocktail. As I will show, the author relies on ancient tropes associated with enslaved and homeless people to delegitimize the beliefs and ritual practices of those he deems This is one of the first volumes to shine light on the sexualized violence that some Holocaust survivors endured in the hands of the Soviet Army, partisans, rescuers, and army personnel in filtration camps during the liberation process. By focusing on testimonies and memoirs, this book discusses in detail a wide range of interactions, including sexual violence, rape, forced cohabitation, sex barter, aid, and romance. The book addresses methodological challenges of employing survivors\u2019 testimonies in an analysis of a traumatic history of liberation sexualized violence.
