We will introduce the concept of tokens, discuss how machines identify patterns and relationships in text, and examine how language can be transformed into numerical representations that computers can work with. Using real-world examples, we will explore techniques such as sentiment analysis, text classification, and topic modeling to better understand how NLP is used to organize information, analyze opinions, and uncover themes hidden within large collections of text.\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003EJoin us as we explore the fundamentals of Natural Language Processing (NLP) and demonstrate how to apply these techniques through beginner-friendly examples using Python. However, performance-driven GeoAI models can amplify spatial inequalities, hinder emergency decision-making and increase environmental carbon footprints.\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003EFrom a critical GIS perspective, this presentation examines responsible GeoAI in climate extremes and disaster mapping through four interconnected dimensions: representativeness, explainability, sustainability and ethics. It also introduces a conceptual governance model that organizes responsible GeoAI practices into three areas: data, application and society.\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003EUltimately, climate resilience depends not only on better algorithms but also on fostering a governance ecosystem where GeoAI is deployed responsibly, ethically and sustainably.\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003E\u003Cstrong\u003ESpeaker Bio: \u003C\/strong\u003EHao Li is a GIS lecturer in the Dept. of Geography at the National University of Singapore, where he is a faculty member of the GIS Unit and an affiliate of the NUS Artificial Intelligence Institute. Forest fires have become not only larger but also more severe and the explosive rise in western U.S. forest-fire activity has occurred despite humanity\u2019s best efforts to suppress it. In this talk, Williams will draw on observations and modeling to explain the various processes and their interactions that have driven the rapid increase toward increasingly large, severe and dangerous wildfires.
