Stephanie Weiss will join for 7 early songs by Berg that evoke the sound world of Strauss and Mahler.\u0026nbsp;Following\u0026nbsp;that will be a performance of Berg\u2019s piano sonata, his first published work, which will segue\u0026nbsp;into the final orchestral interlude from his seminal opera \u003C\/span\u003E\u003Ci\u003E\u003Cspan\u003EWozzeck\u003C\/span\u003E\u003C\/i\u003E\u003Cspan\u003E, performed with pianist Miki Aoki as images from the opera are projected above the stage.\u003C\/span\u003E\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003EThe second half will feature composers\u0026nbsp;who either inspired Berg or reacted against his modernist tendencies by embracing the romantic\u0026nbsp;sounds of old Vienna. Stephanie Weiss will join for three songs by Gustav Mahler that demonstrate his tremendous range of musical\u0026nbsp;emotions, moving from the depths of despair to spiritual healing, and ending\u0026nbsp;in riotous humor. Violinist Katherine McLin and cellist Wesley Skinner will join for two famous arias arranged for piano trio from Erich Wolfgang Korngold\u2019s masterpiece \u003Ci\u003E\u003Cspan\u003EDie Tote Stadt\u003C\/span\u003E\u003C\/i\u003E\u003Cspan\u003E, an operatic homage to the memory of a Vienna fading after the First World War. The recital closes with hilarious and ribald songs by Berg\u2019s mentor Arnold Schoenberg, who wrote these for the Berlin Cabaret scene of the early 1900s, well before his revolutionary\u0026nbsp;experiments in atonality.\u0026nbsp;\u003C\/span\u003E\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003E\u0026nbsp;\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003EAll ticket sales are ONLINE ONLY and open four weeks before event dates.
