Edwards has been a curator at the Whitney since 2018. From 2021\u20132024, she also served as the Whitney\u2019s Director of Curatorial Affairs. In 2022, she was the President of the International Jury of the 59th Venice Biennale, as well as a jury member for the 40th anniversary edition of Videobrasil in 2023 and the selection committee for the curatorship of the Berlin Biennale in 2018. Prior to the Whitney, Edwards served as curator of Performa in New York City and as Curator at Large for the Walker Art Center in Minneapolis, where she oversaw the Mellon Interdisciplinary Initiative. Since 2022, SI has undertaken a comprehensive process of examining its carbon emissions, energy use, travel, transportation, waste, materials and other aspects of institutional practice, with the goal of moving beyond isolated \u201cgreen\u201d initiatives toward a broader transformation of how an arts organization operates. Hessler will reflect on how this process has informed SI\u2019s curatorial thinking, including \u201c\u003Cspan\u003ESpora,\u201d an open-ended initiative that invited artists to intervene in the institution\u2019s architecture, infrastructures and working processes, and \u201cEnergies,\u201d an East Village-wide exhibition that addressed ecological affordances and effects, social formations and political arrangements attached to energy past and present. Rather than treating sustainability as a fixed set of solutions, SI approaches climate action as a collaborative process of learning, experimentation and institutional change. This includes rethinking exhibition materials and production, transportation and shipping, travel, reuse, partnerships and relationships with local communities. Drawing on SI\u2019s experiences, Hessler will consider how museums and arts organizations might redefine institutional success, collaboration, growth and progress in an era of ecological urgency.\u0026nbsp;\u003C\/span\u003E\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Ch5\u003ESpeaker Biography\u003C\/h5\u003E\u003Cp\u003EStefanie Hessler is a curator, writer, editor and the Director of Swiss Institute (SI) in New York. At SI, Hessler has curated and co-curated solo exhibitions by \u003Cspan\u003ESaodat Ismailova,\u0026nbsp;Ali Cherri, Lap-See Lam and Raven Chacon, as well as initiated the curatorial project\u0026nbsp;\u201cSpora,\u201d which invites artists to transform the institution through what she calls \u201cenvironmental institutional critique.\u201d Previously, as the Director of Kunsthall Trondheim in Norway, Hessler co-led the exhibition\u0026nbsp;\u201cSex Ecologies\u201d\u0026nbsp;and edited the accompanying compendium on queer ecologies, sexuality and care in more-than-human worlds (with Seed Box and The MIT Press, 2021). Selected projects as an independent curator include the 17th MOMENTA Biennale,\u0026nbsp;\u201cSensing Nature,\u201d Montreal;\u0026nbsp;\u201cJoan Jonas: Moving Off the Land II,\u201d Ocean Space, Venice; and the symposium\u0026nbsp;\u201cPractices of Attention,\u201d 33rd Bienal de S\u00e3o Paulo. In this conversation, LACMA curators Leah Lehmbeck, Bobbye Tigerman and Clarissa Esguerra will discuss the curatorial vision behind the reinstallation, examining how the museum has reconsidered traditional narratives through new thematic, cross-cultural and interdisciplinary frameworks. They will explore the intellectual and practical challenges of reinstalling a global collection within a new architectural context, including decisions around object selection, interpretive strategies, audience engagement and accessibility. Esguerra is Curator of Costume and Textiles at LACMA where she has overseen, advised and published on numerous fashion and textile installations including \u201cFashioning Fashion: European Dress in Detail\u201d (2010); co-curator of \u201cLee Alexander McQueen: Mind, Mythos, Muse\u201d (2022); \u201cTimeless: J. Moreno\u201d (2025, The M Museum, Manila); and LACMA\u2019s David Geffen Galleries (2026). In 2019, she curated \u201cPower of Pattern: Central Asian Ikats\u201d and in 2016 co-curated \u201cReigning Men: Fashion in Menswear\u201d; both exhibitions were awarded the Richard Martin Exhibition Award by the Costume Society of America. Esguerra is currently organizing an exhibition on the woven arts of the Philippines.\u0026nbsp;\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003ELeah Lehmbeck is curator and head of the American Art and European Paintings and Sculpture departments at LACMA. Dr. Lehmbeck\u2019s most recent exhibitions at LACMA include \u201cCity of Cinema: Paris 1850\u20131907\u201d (\u003Cspan\u003Ewith Britt Salvesen and Vanessa R. Schwartz, 2022), \u201cTrue Nature: Rodin and the Impressionists\u201d (2022\u201324), the LACMA presentation of \u201cAnother World: The Transcendental Painting Group, 1938\u201345\u201d (2022\u201323) and \u201cCollecting Impressionism\u201d at LACMA (2025\u201327). She has lectured and written widely across her field, serving as editor and\/or author for many publications, among which the most recent are Impressionist and Modern Art: The A. Jerrold Perenchio Collection (2016 and 2026); Manet and Modern Beauty: The Artist\u0027s Last Years (2019); City of Cinema: Paris 1850\u20131907 (2022), and True Nature: Rodin in Context (2022). She received her BA from Columbia University and her PhD from the Institute of Fine Arts.\u0026nbsp;\u003C\/span\u003E\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003EBobbye Tigerman is a curator of design, craft and architecture and has served as the Marilyn B. and Calvin B. Gross Curator, Decorative Arts and Design at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art since 2006. Her mission is to connect with museum audiences by communicating the relevance of design and craft to everyday life and to provide a platform to underrepresented designers. Past exhibitions include \u201cScandinavian Design and the United States\u201d (2022), \u201cBeyond Bling: Jewelry from the Lois Boardman Collection\u201d (2016) and \u201cCalifornia Design, 1930-1965: Living in a Modern Way\u201d (2011).
