Join The Poitier Film School for an evening with Stephen Rivkin, ACE. The Academy Award and BAFTA nominated editor, who worked with James Cameron on his international blockbuster “Avatar” and won an Eddie Award for his work on “Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl,” showcases examples from his storied career to illustrate the power of editing and creative problem solving in storytelling.

The short film "Hello Maggie!" illuminates the love and friendship between a bird named Maggie and a little boy, Shig, during his family’s survival at the WWII Heart Mountain internment camp in Wyoming. Based on a children’s book of the same name by Shigeru Yabu, the true story is brought to life by Walt Disney and Hanna-Barbera animator Willie Ito and informed by his own experiences in the internment camps.  Ito will be in person to discuss the film.

Join us on March 23rd for a showing of Crip Camp (2020) at ASU Biodesign Institute, room B105.

The event will run from 5–8 p.m., and food will be provided. Following the film, there will be a panel discussion with Sarah Kirwan and Matt Schuler, who will share insights and lead a conversation about disability rights, accessibility, and inclusion.
