"Intensely subtle" takes the art of observation to an excessive extent. Capitalizing on a printmaker’s potential for needle-point precision, Karl Conner Johnson renders the mundane, the vulnerable, and the pathetic in resplendently ridiculous detail. By filtering his observations through the curiously aligned lenses of artistic tradition and individualistic perception, this body of work emphasizes the inherent dualities of focused inspection (the social and the personal, the timeless and the immediate, the objective and the subjective) and the blur between them. in doing so, Intensely subtle" explores the act of scrutiny as a reward in and of itself.
