How do you get your scholarship from a manuscript to a printed book? Eric Zinner of New York University Press will discuss pitching to a press and finding the right press for one’s work, writing a compelling proposal and the many steps between contract and publication. The presentation is followed by a Q&A. One-on-one meetings with Zinner will be available in the afternoon. 

Faculty are trained to write and publish for university presses. However, some faculty hear the call of public humanities and want to reach a broader audience through trade publication. This panel of esteemed trade professionals will address how to move into trade publication, how to approach a press, and how to find and work with an agent. The event assumes no prior knowledge. It is for the trade press curios as well as those looking for their next book deal.

What does it mean to really listen to someone? Listening provides the opportunity to focus and be present with one another beyond the demands of the distraction economy. At its most radical, listening provides hospitality to people and ideas outside of our confirmation bias. by the Join us as the co-authors of "Rhetorical Listening in Action: A Concept-Tactic Approach" discuss the challenges, tools, and tactics for listening inside and outside the workplace. 

What constitutes cultural appropriation, and when is it unethical? Should we adopt voices beyond our own, and if so then what factors must be weighed beforehand?  

Pressing on hard research questions may lead to ethical dilemmas of how to speak in relation to another. This panel will discuss what it means to think, research, and write across cultures and ways of being.
