Celebrate Native American heritage and honor the contributions of all U.S. veterans at the Native American Heritage Festival featuring the 19th Annual Veterans Day Weekend Traditional Pow Wow on Fletcher Library Lawn at ASU’s West campus.

The event is open to all with free admission and free parking. Join us!

The family-friendly event features Native arts and crafts vendors, food trucks and art demonstrations by indigenous fine artists. An art exhibit curated by ASU faculty member Jacob Meders (Mechoopda/Maidu) will showcase some of Arizona’s contemporary Native American artists. The ASU Teachers of the Future student club is hosting kids’ activities.

The centerpiece of the event — the Pow Wow — is a traditional gathering of dancers, drummers, elders and families. The arena director will direct the activities in the dance arena and the announcer will explain the symbolism, protocol and spiritual meanings of the dances, regalia, singing and drumming.

You won’t want to miss the Pow Wow’s grand entries at 1 p.m. and 7 p.m. All U.S. veterans will be encouraged to participate in the evening’s grand entry where they will be welcomed and thanked for their service to our country.

Attendees are encouraged to bring their own lawn chairs. Limited seating will be provided for elders.

Volunteers are needed to help stage the event; to sign up to volunteer, please sign up online at: http://links.asu.edu/powwowvolunteersignup or  email: westevents@asu.edu.

Special thanks to our presenting sponsor Desert Diamond Casino West Valley.
