Visit "Palimpsests of Arizona History," a new exhibit at the Downtown Phoenix campus Library. On display during regular library hours from Sept. 9 until Dec. 9.

Arizona History is a palimpsest, a story layered over continuing preexisting stories — they are unrecognized stories that have been heavily erased and ignored. But Arizona’s Mexican heritage has been, and is, all around us. “Palimpsests of Arizona History” is a visual exhibition created and curated by Pete Dimas in collaboration with ASU’s School of Human Evolution and Social Change. It aims to uncover this overwritten history dating back to the 16th Century and explore the ways in which Mexicans and Mexican Americans have deeply shaped the geography, food, work force, architecture, and culture of contemporary Arizona.

Explore "Psyche Inspired," a new art exhibit at Fletcher Library on the West campus. On dispaly during regular library hours from until Dec. 9.

Psyche is both the name of an asteroid orbiting the Sun between Mars and Jupiter — and the name of a NASA space mission to visit that asteroid, led by Arizona State University. The NASA Psyche Inspired program brings undergraduate students from any discipline or major together to share the excitement, innovation, and scientific and engineering content of NASA’s Psyche mission with the public in new ways through artistic and creative works. The works from Psyche Inspired are shared in an online gallery and in downloadable books that tell the story of Psyche through musical scores, sculptures, painting, 3-D models, photography, acrylic art, needlepoint, stop-motion films, mixed media, and more.

Visit Fletcher Library to see the artworks on display until Dec. 9.

Discover "In the Shadow of Giants: The Other Italians," a new exhibit at the ASU Music Library.

The end of the 19th century into the beginning of the 20th century saw the rise of verismo opera. While the movement spread throughout many countries, it is most commonly associated with the Italian composers Giacomo Puccini, Pietro Mascagni, Ruggero Leoncavallo, Umberto Giordano, and Francesco Cilea. Unfortunately, the popularity of these "giants" of the genre has overshadowed the great works of many other Italian composers whose remarkable operatic contributions have been neglected or forgotten.

This exhibit features first-edition opera scores by 11 of these lesser-known Italian composers including works by Domenico Monleone, Ermanno Wolf-Ferrari, Alberto Franchetti, Riccardo Pick-Mangiagalli, Antonio Smareglia and Ildebrando Pizzetti.

The exhibit will be featured in the ASU Music Library from Aug. 18 through Dec. 16, 2022. Check library hours and plan your visit

All scores are from the private collection of Dr. Robert Mills.

Join the Unit for Data Science and Analytics for a presentation with Shade Shutters, assistant professor, School of Complex Adaptive Systems. An obstinate problem in the study of complex systems is how to quantitatively compare one system to another. In cities for example, learn how to utlize the internal parts of each system and use the part that are connected to each other in non-random and often cryptic ways. Discover how these connections can be modelled as a complex network.
