Arabic Film and Poetry Series 2022 - Film : For SAMA

Promoting multiculturalism, diversity, interfaith dialogue and cross-cultural understanding.

The ASU Council for Arabic and Islamic Studies and the Arabic Studies Program cordially invites you to the Spring 2022 Arabic Film and Poetry Series. The Council for Arabic and Islamic Studies was established at ASU to acknowledge the significant contributions of Arabic and Islamic civilization and cultures to the world at large both historically and in the modern age. The Council’s research and teaching programs seek to promote multiculturalism, diversity, inter-faith dialogue, cross-cultural understanding and the expansion of human civilization and cultures through Arabic as well as other Middle-Eastern languages including Persian and Turkish. The Council seeks to develop constructive academic and cultural interaction and partnerships between ASU and similar groups in the Arab and Muslim worlds.

During this series, explore the Arab and Islamic worlds during an engaging series including art, culture and faculty-led scholarly discussions.

Organized and Moderated by Professor Souad T. Ali

FOR SAMA is both an intimate and epic journey into the female experience of war. A love letter from a young mother to her daughter, the film tells the story of Waad al-Kateab’s life through five years of the uprising in Aleppo, Syria as she falls in love, gets married and gives birth to Sama, all while cataclysmic conflict rises around her.
