The ASU Book Group's December 2022 reading selection is "To Live and Die in El Valle" by Oscar Mancinas. The book group is open to all in the ASU community and meets monthly from noon–1 p.m. with two different options for attendance: either in-person at the Piper Writers House or virtually on Zoom (registration required for online attendance). In-person attendees are invited to join the author for lunch after at the University Club, no-host.

Synopsis:

The first major work published by the 32-year-old author, the book is a collection of 13 short stories about various characters that grow up in a fictional version of the Salt River Valley. Mancinas received the 2022 Southwest Book Award from the Border Regional Library Association.

The book is available on amazon.com or through local bookstores.

Oscar Mancinas is a PhD student in the School of Transborder Studies at ASU.
