Addressing Disparities in Type 2 Diabetes: It takes a village.
Gabriel Shaibi is a professor and Southwest Borderlands Scholar, director - Center for Health Promotion and Disease Prevention and the senior director of research collaborations - Edson College of Nursing and Health Innovation at Arizona State University
Shaibi will discuss how Type 2 diabetes disproportionately affects minority children, families and communities. These disparities are the result of complex interactions that include social, biological and political factors. This presentation will describe a research program that aims to understand and address disparities in Type 2 diabetes among high-risk Latino youth using a multi-level ecological framework.
