From Darkness to Light: Figurative Works from the Permanent Collection

Exhibition runs Thursday through Saturday, Oct. 6, 2018, through Feb. 9, 2019

Drawn from ASU Art Museum's permanent collections, this exhibition highlights the work of 31 internationally and nationally known artists who represent the human form in order to convey a vast range of emotions. A breadth of emotions are explored in the works on display ranging from lightheartedness and humor to anguish and despair. "From Darkness to Light" features both ceramic and print media, representing two of ASU Art Museum's largest and strongest holdings. Notably, the prints selected for the exhibition are all by artists who work primarily in ceramics.

This exhibition is generously supported by the Ceramics Research Center, Armstrong-Prior Inc. and CMI Moulding.

Visit the museum website for Ceramics Research Center directions and hours and information about bringing classes to tour exhibitions or meet with curators.

Public Lecture: Oct. 22, 2018 at 6:30 p.m.

In conjunction with the exhibition, visiting artist Claire Curneen (also highlighted in the exhibition) will be giving a public lecture on Monday, Oct. 22, at 6:30 p.m. at the Ceramics Research Center at the Brickyard.

Claire Curneen’s work is distinct for its figurative representation. As one of the U.K.'s foremost ceramic artists, Curneen draws us into a world of narrative where the tension between the real and the imagined is played out before us. Her ceramic figures have an imposing presence which tap into our desires, fears and mysteries.

This lecture is supported by the Windgate Charitable Foundation as part of the Windgate Contemporary Craft Initiative at ASU Art Museum.
