Film: 'Lion of the Desert'

The Arizona State University Council for Arabic and Islamic Studies presents the spring 2018 Arabic Film and Poetry Series.

Today's event will feature a showing of the historical Libyan action film "Lion in the Desert."

Film Description:
"Lion in the Desert" is a historical Libyan action film featuring the story of Libyan leader Omar Al-Mukhtar. This film stars Anthony Quinn as Omar Al-Mukhtar, the Bedouin leader fighting the Regio Esercito (Italian Royal Army) in the years leading up to Word War II.

The film was directed by Mustapha Akkad, producer of "Muhammad, Messenger of God," which was nominated for Best Original Score in the 50th Academy Awards.
