The History of the Native American Church

Tipi on the Tempe campus

All are welcome inside the tipi to learn about the history of the Native American Church, part of the annual Simon Ortiz RED INK Indigenous Speaker Series.

Guest speaker Earl Arkinson (Chippewa Cree), a religious leader who served three terms as the president of the Native American Church of North America, will speak on the development of Native American culture and religion.

Underscoring indigenous American experiences and perspectives, the RED INK series, sponsored by the Labriola National American Indian Data Center, seeks to create and celebrate knowledge that evolves from an inclusive Indigenous worldview and that is applicable to all walks of life.

The tipi will be set up on the Sun Devil Fitness Complex Athletic Field near Ross-Blakely Hall.

In addition to the Tuesday and Wednesday afternoon talks, please join us for refreshments from 4:30 to 6 p.m., Wednesday, March 13, in room 117 of Ross-Blakely Hall.

ASU sponsors: American Indian Studies Program, ASU Library, Department of English, Labriola National American Indian Data Center, Office of American Initiatives and the RED INK Initiative.
