Indian School

Charlie, a World War II veteran, returns to his Yaqui village in the Sonoran Desert to mourn the death of his son. In returning home, he must face the culture he has isolated himself from for so long as well as his traumatizing childhood in an Indian School. His reunited family does not fully understand what horror he has witnessed and the shame he has repressed. With the help of his daughter-in-law Helen and guided by his determination to give his grandson a better life, he confronts the ghosts of his past and calls on his ancestors to heal him. There, surrounded by the sacred mountain peaks, he rediscovers what it means to be part of a family. Written by MFA playwright Esther Almazan. Directed by Michael Scholar Jr..
