Larry Madrigal: Tightrope

Larry Madrigal: Tightrope

"Tightrope," a MFA thesis exhibition by Larry Madrigal, revisits the historical legacy of genre painting through works that highlight the meaningful and precarious nature of everyday life. The exhibition recognizes the delicate balance necessary when satisfying the demands of social, personal or artistic expectations. Drawing from the experience of starting a family, Madrigal infuses ordinary routines with issues of identity, responsibility, ambition and contemplation. Through large scale figurative paintings and smaller oil sketches, the show explores balance as a practical theme, as well as the way in which tensions in beliefs, emotions and opinions manifest themselves in the mundane. "Tightrope" elevates the commonplace as an arena for reflection on the complex nature of being, and updates the longstanding subject of quotidian life.

Join the artist for the opening reception on Tuesday, February 4 from 6 to 8 p.m.
