Marked

Maggie Pierce, "Built to what code?" laser prints, push pins, string, and tape, 5'x5'x6"

"Marked" is an art exhibition that explores how contemporary drawing is a shared visual language of expression, and quite possibly the most frequent of pursuits for artists. "Marked" displays a wide range of approaches to drawing: from pencil on paper and digital animation, to performative and sculptural actions that elicit the embodied practice of drawing. By showcasing local artists from varied cultural backgrounds and experiences, this exhibition exemplifies how drawing can be simultaneously broad and specific, holding space for artists to (re)define what drawing is for themselves based on their chosen context.

This event is located in the Grant Street Studios Step Gallery, rooted in the downtown Phoenix warehouse district. The exhibition is facilitated and organized by the graduate students in Professor Heidi Hogden’s "Drawing In the Expanded Field" seminar and supported by the Drawing Club student association.

Grab-and-go food and refreshments will be offered at the opening. Masks and social distancing are required. A negative COVID test is highly recommended.

Exhibition Dates: March 17–26, 2022
Opening Reception: Friday, March 18, 6–9 p.m.
Gallery Hours: Thursday–Saturday, noon–5 p.m.
