MNS Student Community Circles

Student on computer

The School of Math and Natural Sciences (MNS) is hosting a series of Student Community Listening Circles this Spring. These events provide a time and non-judgmental space for students to share their experiences, challenges, ideas and anxieties as students in MNS with School leadership. Please see attached flyer for dates and Zoom link, and if you choose to attend, please note the MNS Student Listening Circles Community Guidelines for participation

Zoom link for the event: https://asu.zoom.us/j/82717721691

Please take note of the following guidelines for participation in the MNS Listening Circles:

  • R-E-S-P-E-C-T
  • 1 diva / 1 mic
  • Allow one person to speak fully without interruption
  • Consider 'raising your hand' for a turn to speak if you find yourself waiting.
  • Speak for yourself, don’t generalize
  • Avoid statements like 'many students feel that…'
  • Use 'I' statements
  • Make space/take space
  • Be sure to not 'dominate the mic' – let others speak, as well

Ouch and Educate

If someone says something that is upsetting to you, please speak out: say 'ouch,' tell us why and how you were upset, and give the other person time to respond. If your statement led to someone’s upset, your response should start with 'I apologize.' You can then ask for an invitation to explain.

Respect Anonymity

Although this is a place to share, please respect anonymity. If what you are sharing involves another person, please keep their identity anonymous. If you would like to share in more detail, please contact us via e-mail to set up a meeting.
