Opening Reception: Fable

Mary Wilhelm: Fable

“Fable," a MFA thesis exhibition by Mary Wilhelm, is a series of narrative work that encourages the consideration of both the complex relationships of animals, and our relationships with each other. Inspiration for these pieces stem from observations in the weird-world of online forum discussions, current political events, human psychology and various spiritual philosophies. A reconceptualization of Aesop’s Fables, this work includes a cast of morally ambiguous characters whose alignments shift depending on the context of the narrative. In reality, where the lines between right and wrong are starkly drawn; “Fable” invites viewers to step into a world where these dualities do not exist, and the nature of each character is not so straightforward.

The opening reception will take place on Tuesday, February 16 from 5 to 7 p.m. RSVP for 30-minute timed-entry required. Gallery occupancy is limited to allow for social distancing. Face coverings are required in all campus buildings and outdoor spaces.
