Progressive Pedagogy: Compassion Fatigue in Teaching, and Self-Care

Faculty engaged in tai-chi session

Join the Success Courses faculty group of ASU University College for its annual series of professional development workshops that draw from progressive pedagogical (ProPed) techniques, designed to support student success and retention. These sessions are open to all across ASU.

For years compassion fatigue (CF) has been linked to other helping professions but little has been linked to teaching. Join Shannon Lank, instructor in University College, as she defines CF, its causes, the difference between burnout and CF, what self-care is and is not, and why self-care is important, especially for our faculty. Participants will create individual prevention strategies to use for the remainder of the semester in this interactive presentation.

In addition to joining the seminar in-person in Computing Commons, room 120 on the ASU Tempe campus, participants may join via Vidyo access from University Center, room 317, on ASU Downtown Phoenix campus, or remotely via Vidyo link on a personal computing device.
