Sonic Overload - A Book Launch and Discussion with Lunch

Sonic Overload - A Book Launch and Discussion with Lunch

Join us for an introduction by and discussion with Peter Schmelz of his book Sonic Overload: Alfred Schnittke, Valentin Silvestrov, and Polystylism in the Late USSR.

Sonic Overload offers a new, music-centered cultural history of the late Soviet Union. The book focuses on ... music as a response to the information overload swamping listeners in the Soviet Union during its final decades. Schmelz traces the ways leading composers Alfred Schnittke and Valentin Silvestrov initially embraced popular sources before ultimately rejecting them.

Peter is a Melikian Center faculty affiliate in the ASU School of Music, Dance and Theatre.

RSVPs are required for the discussion and grab-and-go-lunch at: https://melikian.asu.edu/form/rsvp-sonic-overload-by-peter-sch

The event will be held at ASU in Durham Hall room 240 (851 South Cady Mall, Tempe, AZ 85281) and by Zoom at https://asu.zoom.us/j/2547561917.
