Supporting Social Movements During Direct Actions as a Legal Observer

NCIAS Social Hour

Please join us for our February Justice Briefing! Justice Briefings are informal brown bags featuring research findings, advocacy experiences, works-in-progress and community opportunities for students, faculty and staff.

This month's presentation will introduce the National Lawyers Guild, a progressive legal organization dedicated to a society of people over property, and a unique aspect of the organization called Legal Observing. The presentation will discuss what is a Legal Observer, why it is important and how people can become an "LO" to support activists in progressive movements.

February's briefing will be hosted by Russell Facente. Russell has lived multiple lives in multiple states across the country (sometimes in a house, sometimes in a van) as a theatrical carpenter, welder and rigger; a climbing and canyoneering guide; convenience store clerk; bartender/server and bicycle shop manager. He is now a third-year law student at ASU and the Legal Observer Program Coordinator for the NLG Central AZ chapter, as well as an Observer himself.
