This 45-minute session is reserved for ASU faculty, staff, and Teaching Assistants.

This workshop will be held online. The use of automated bots, AI assistants, or other meeting recording devices are prohibited without the prior approval of event coordinators.

Accessibility Through the Student Lens:
Navigating Canvas with a Screen Reader

Experience what it's like to navigate a Canvas course using a screen reader. In this workshop, students demonstrate how they access course content, locate assignments, participate in discussions and complete common learning activities while sharing the challenges and successes they encounter along the way. You'll gain a deeper understanding of how thoughtful course organization, consistent navigation and accessible design improve the learning experience for students who use assistive technologies.

What you'll learn:

  • Describe how students use screen readers to navigate Canvas courses.
  • Identify common accessibility barriers in course navigation, modules, assignments and discussions.
  • Recognize how consistent course organization improves navigation and usability.
  • Apply practical strategies that make Canvas courses more accessible and inclusive.

Target Audience: ASU Educators and Designers.
