Beating: Sound and Photography by Charles Eppley

Event description

  • Arts and entertainment
  • Free
  • Open to the public

ArtSpace West and the Interdisciplinary Arts & Performance (IAP) program proudly present Beating, a new sound installation by Charles Eppley.

Beating explores the acoustical phenomenon of "beating," a process in which two or more tones, similar but slightly different in pitch, intersect to create complex rhythmic wave patterns (or "beats"). Eppley uses this phenomenon to explore the history of electronic music and queer identity, presented in live and recorded sound based on a vintage 1950s radio signal generator (one of the earliest instruments used in electronic music). In addition to the sound installation, Eppley will display complementary works in digital photography, sculpture, and text.
