Bioethics Breakfast Club: Warning Coffee may be hot! Chocolate too! Agriculture, Technology, and the Future of Food

With Changbin Chen, School of Life Sciences and Andrea Rissing, School of Sustainability

With 8.3 billion people inhabiting a warming planet, how do we feed them all? What factors pose the greatest threat to food security and what approaches to responding to these factors are most promising? Industrial agriculture, sustainable agriculture, genetically modified crops, and changes in technology and consumer habits all offer differing solutions, but what tradeoffs are we willing to accept in the quest for a secure food supply? How does a changing climate impact the issues and possible solutions in food security?  What should we consider when thinking about the present and future of food systems that we tend to overlook?
