Join us for BioEthics Breakfast Club with Hinsby Cadillo-Quiroz, SOLS, Jennifer Richter, SFIS and Benjamin Trumble, SHESC

Studying life in context takes biologists into the field.  What does successful, contemporary fieldwork look like?  Safety, broadly understood to include harassment free workplaces, has been elevated to a required topic in responsible conduct of research.  Many have called out the failures of "parachute" science, and issues of who benefits from the research and the associated data sovereignty for the communities involved.  What are the benefits and risks of field research? How do we address the issues of "parachute" science and safe research environments? What should new researchers know as they prepare for field work?
