Building a Persuasive and Memorable Talk: 2-Day Intensive Workshop for Researchers

Event description

  • Professional and career development

Your research is groundbreaking—but does it resonate with your audience? Whether addressing funding agencies, policymakers, or the public, crafting a persuasive, accessible talk is essential to advancing your work.

Led by science communication expert Darcy J. Gentleman, Ph.D., this selective, in-person workshop will help you transform complex research into compelling narratives that engage and influence audiences—even in rooms you may never enter.

Through hands-on exercises, multiple talk deliveries, and expert feedback, you'll learn to:

  • Clarify your message for audiences outside your field
  • Engage and persuade listeners with a structured narrative
  • Deliver with confidence using proven presentation techniques

This highly interactive workshop focuses on real-time feedback and iteration. Participants must arrive with a 3-5 - minute talk prepared, ready to refine and improve throughout the sessions.

Space is limited. Applicants will be notified of their selection at least two weeks before the event.

Presenter: With over 15 years of experience, Darcy J. Gentleman, Ph.D., has coached hundreds of researchers to translate complex science into compelling, persuasive narratives. He has led workshops for scientists across academia, government, and industry, helping them engage decision-makers and broader audiences.
