Center for Bioenergy and Photosynthesis Seminar Series: Metalloproteins in viruses and cyanobacteria

Event description

  • Open to the public
  • Science

Maria-Eirini Pandelia, associate professor of Biochemistry at Brandeis University, will be discussing the unexpected occurrence of Fe-S clusters in viral oncogenes and proteases initially predicted to be Zn-dependent, as well as exploring the untapped potential of cyanobacterial genomes for discovering toxins and antibiotics that could greatly impact ecology, agriculture and human health.

The Center for Bioenergy and Photosynthesis carries out frontier multidisciplinary scientific research designed to use biological and biologically-based artificial systems to address societal energy needs in a sustainable manner, with an emphasis on solar energy conversion and bioinspired energy transformation to meet human needs, and investigates other aspects of photosynthesis that affect society and the environment.
