Gilberto Q. Conchas obtained a Ph.D. and M.A. in Sociology from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor and a B.A. in Sociology from the University of California, Berkeley. He holds the Inaugural Wayne K. and Anita Woolfolk Hoy Endowed Chair of Education Equity at Pennsylvania State University and he is a research associate at the Center for the Study of Higher Education (CSHE).

Doctor Conchas' current coauthored book, The Chicana/o/x Dream: Hope, Resistance and Educational Success, received the 2021 Book-of-the-Year Award from the American Association of Hispanics in Higher Education (AAHHE). In 2022, he received the Sylvia Hurtado University Faculty Award for teaching and research from AAHHE.
