Event description
- Academic events
Welcome to ASU Engineering Coffee Industry Talks – where ASU experts can learn about new capabilities with commercial space leaders.
Speaker: Matt Gialich, Founder and CEO, AstroForge
Matt Gialich is a former engineer and founder. Stating out working on navigation in support of the DOD, and then quickly becoming an early engineer at Virgin Galactic, he helped spin out Virgin Orbit, creating the first liquid fueled rocket to be launched from an aircraft. In 2021, he founded Astroforge to make asteroid mining a practical and near-term solution to preserving the Earth’s most critical resources. They successfully conducted a hot fire test of their Odin surveyor spacecraft—a key milestone towards the scheduled Q1 2024 launch of the 100-kg vehicle to fly by an undisclosed asteroid! They are interested in connecting with experts in asteroids geology, modern propulsion systems, testing of fuel sources for engine development, mechanical assembly and fabrication for spacecraft development, sensing suites, and data simulations/analysis to pursue joint funding opportunities.
