Join us for a poetry reading by Juan Carlos Galeano.

During the event, we will present Professor Galeano with the 2024 Seras Puentes Award. This award is Spanish for “bridge beings” and recognizes service to the arts and humanities and social and environmental justice on behalf of humans, animals, plants, and all living things.

 

Juan Carlos Galeano was born in Colombia and returns often to the Amazon region. He is the author of Amazonia (poetry, 2003), Folktales of the Amazon (2009), Sobre las cosas (poetry, 2010), Amazonia y otros poemas (poetry, 2011), and Historias del viento (poetry, 2013). He directed the films The Trees Have a Mother (2008) and El Río (2019). Currently, he teaches Latin American poetry and cultures of the Amazon basin at Florida State University
